Kiln-Dried Sawn European Oak Timber Boards
Sourced from sustainably managed, premium-grade European forests, our rough sawn European Oak boards are precision kiln-dried to an 8–12% moisture content. This thorough, controlled seasoning process ensures maximum dimensional stability, drastically reducing internal tension and movement. It delivers a superior, dependable raw material ideal for high-end bespoke joinery, solid furniture making, timber framing accents, and luxury interior architectural projects.
Celebrated worldwide for its strength, heavy density, and distinct ray fleece and grain character, European Oak displays a warm, golden-brown hue that ages gracefully over time. Its natural tannin content offers excellent durability, while its dense grain allows it to machine cleanly, hold sharp profiles, and accept a broad spectrum of stains, fuming treatments, oils, and lacquers. Sourcing rough sawn boards cut to your project’s rough dimensions minimizes workshop processing, saves valuable machine time, and reduces expensive timber offcut waste.
Dimension & Machining Allowance Guide
Rough sawn timber requires adequate waste allowance to plane square, flat, and true. To hit your target finished dimensions, factor in the following tolerances:
Width Allowance: Order sawn boards at least 10–15mm wider than your target finished width (e.g., select a minimum 115mm board for a 100mm planed finish) to account for edge jointing, straight-lining, and clean parallel ripping.
Thickness & Cupping Allowance: Because Oak is a dense, strong hardwood, natural surface tension, minor cupping, or timber case-hardening can occur during kiln seasoning. Allow an additional 10–15mm over your required finished thickness so you can face-joint the board completely flat on a surfacer without finishing below your target size.
Length Allowance: Timber ends can develop minor checking or end-grain drying splits during the kiln cycle. Always order boards 50–100mm longer than your final requirement to allow for clean squaring and trimming off end checks in the workshop.
Please Note (Cutting Tolerances): All boards are supplied rough sawn and unplaned. While we cut as close to your specified sizes as possible, dimensions are provided with a positive cutting tolerance. Boards may arrive slightly wider, thicker, or longer than ordered, but will never be supplied under-dimensioned. This guarantees you always have enough raw material to mill down to your final, finished specifications.
