Kiln-Dried Sawn African Hardwood Timber Boards
Sourced from premium commercial timber stocks, our rough sawn African hardwoods—with species regularly including Sapele, Gombe, and Meranti—are precision kiln-dried to an 8–12% moisture content. This controlled seasoning delivers superior dimensional stability and minimal movement, providing an outstanding raw material for bespoke joinery, door and window framing, cabinetry, and architectural millwork.
Prized for their dense grain structure, natural rot resistance, and rich warm-to-deep reddish tones, these hardwoods machine reliably and accept stains, oils, and varnishes with ease. Sourcing rough sawn boards cut close to your rough project sizes significantly cuts down on workshop waste, saving both processing time and overall material costs.
Dimension & Machining Allowance Guide
Rough sawn timber requires adequate waste allowance to plane square, flat, and true. To hit your finished sizes, factor in the following tolerances:
Width Allowance: Order sawn boards at least 10mm wider than your target finished width (e.g., choose a minimum 110mm board for a 100mm planed finish) to allow for edge jointing and clean trimming.
Thickness & Cupping Allowance: Natural tension, slight cupping, or bowing can occur across wider timber boards. Allow an extra 10–15mm over your desired finished thickness so you can face-joint the timber completely flat without dropping below your target dimensions.
Please Note (Cutting Tolerances): All boards are supplied rough sawn and unplaned. While we always aim to match your requested dimensions as closely as possible, sizes are supplied with a positive tolerance. Boards may arrive slightly wider or longer than ordered, but will never be supplied smaller.
